Discovering Human Design: My Story & What I’ve Learned So Far

I can still remember the exact moment my therapist asked me if I knew what my Human Design was. I was sitting on her couch, mid-session, racking my brain to see if it sounded familiar. Maybe I’d heard of it in passing, but I didn’t really know what it was. She pulled out her phone, input my birth details, & smiled as she told me I was a Projector. I could see the recognition in her expression, like she’d just had an “aha!” moment, & little did I know, I was about to have one, too.

As she described traits of Projectors, I immediately felt so seen & understood. Projectors are the guides & leaders of Human Design, known for their ability to see the bigger picture or the “bird’s-eye view” that others might miss. This instantly resonated with me. I’ve always gravitated toward leadership roles & felt like I approach life with a broader perspective.

She explained how Projectors thrive when their gifts are recognized but can feel bitter when they’re out of alignment with their energy. That truly hit home for me. Growing up, I was the “good kid” who made straight A’s & was in honors classes. I craved validation from my parents, my teachers, really anyone around me. When my hard work went unnoticed or uncelebrated, I often felt a deep sense of bitterness & rejection. Reflecting on my life, I could see how this pattern played out in so many areas. Sitting there on my therapist’s couch, everything started clicking, & I knew I needed to dig deeper.

Over the years, I’ve explored other systems like Myers-Briggs, astrology, & the Enneagram because I love anything that helps me become more self-aware. But nothing ever felt as accurate or transformative as Human Design. The more I learned about my chart, the more I realized how spot-on it was. Human Design is so layered & complex- it’s fascinating. Diving into it has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done.

Human Design also gave me clarity about my career. At the time, I was working in corporate marketing, feeling completely unfulfilled. I had been through five reorgs, each one pushing me into new roles with little say in what I was doing or time to develop expertise. Learning about my 5/1 profile helped me understand why I felt so misaligned.

As a Line 5, I love helping people & teaching. As a Line 1, I need time to research & master a topic before I feel confident sharing it with others. But in my corporate roles, I was constantly thrown into new responsibilities without the chance to fully learn & grow.

I also realized how much bitterness I carried because I didn’t feel seen or recognized for my skills. Recognition in my workplace was rare & often reserved for the same few people. Meanwhile, I was working hard, trying to bring value, & still feeling overlooked. Understanding these dynamics through my Human Design gave me the clarity & confidence to make a change—I decided to leave. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the first step toward finding alignment.

That realization was life-changing for me, & I knew Human Design could be just as transformative for others. I’d wanted to start my own business for years & promised myself that whatever I ended up doing, it would make a positive impact & help others. So, I signed up for the Human Design Mastery program through The Design of You. Part of what drew me in was that Leah, the owner, came from a corporate background too—as a Scrum Master, no less (seriously, how many Scrum Masters do you know?!). It just felt like it was meant to be.

Since completing the program & becoming a certified Human Design reader, I’ve been able to combine my love for research with my passion for helping others. As a Projecter & Line 5, I love taking on a leadership role & guiding others. My Line 1 thrives on diving deep into each person’s unique chart & uncovering what makes them special. The moments when I see someone light up with recognition or have their own “aha!” moment make it all worth it.

Even now, I’m still learning & growing through Human Design & it’s been so fun. I feel like I discover new things about my chart constantly. Exploring my chart has revealed so much about myself, like how my root center is highly activated. This means I’m naturally ambitious, tenacious, & capable of handling pressure consistently. It couldn’t feel more accurate! It’s helped me embrace these traits & use them in a way that feels authentic to me.

If you’ve ever been curious about Human Design or want to become more self-aware, I’d love to explore your chart with you. I offer 1-hour readings on my site, which are now available.
